This morning as the boys and I were in the gym doing our upper body workout, we got to talking about the sneaky little saboteur that can often derail us; perfectionism!
Listen up, because I’ve been around the block a few times in the fitness world, and let me tell you, I’ve seen perfectionism wreak havoc on more people than I can count.
Here’s the deal: striving for perfection in your fitness and health goals might sound noble, but in reality, it’s a one-way ticket to frustrationville.
First off, let’s get one thing straight: nobody, and I mean nobody, is perfect. Not me, not you, not even that Instagram fitness model who seems to have it all together.
We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and that’s okay! But when you set unrealistic expectations for yourself and demand nothing short of perfection, you’re setting yourself up for HUGE disappointment over and over.
Think about it: if you beat yourself up every time you miss a workout or indulge in a slice of pizza, how long do you think you’ll last on your fitness journey? Spoiler alert: not long. Perfectionism leads to burnout faster than you can say “burpee”. Trust me, I know!
Here’s the good news: you don’t have to be perfect to see results. In fact, embracing imperfection can actually be the key to long-term success.
Instead of striving for perfection, focus on progress. Celebrate the small victories, like completing that extra rep or choosing a salad over fries. Every little step forward adds up, and before you know it, you’ll be closer to your goals than you ever thought possible.
So, the next time you catch yourself getting caught up in the pursuit of perfection, take a step back and cut yourself some slack.
Remember, it’s not about being perfect, it’s about being the best version of yourself. And trust me, that version is pretty darn amazing, imperfections and all. Love you!
