Last week I talked about the Sunshine Vitamin and the importance it has in your overall wellbeing. If you missed that blog, catch it here. This week I’m talking about the world of benefits that being out in nature has, not only mentally, but physically as well.
As the weather warms up in a lot of places, people are feeling the renewed energy that spring brings with it. Now, I know that not everyone lives in Sunny SoCal like I do, and getting outside in the winter months or rainy season can be hard.
I actually LOVE the snow and LOVE the cold; and have the most fun when I’m on my skis on the slopes of Jackson Hole, but not everyone is like me. I’m not a big summer sun guy, so I opt to go out in the early morning hours or in the evening when the weather warms up here. Funny that I chose to live in California huh?
Whether YOU like summer, winter, spring or fall, there are too many health benefits to skip being outside on a regular basis, meaning daily, no matter the season even if it’s ONLY for 10 minutes.
When you step outside and get moving, whether it's hiking through the mountains, jogging in the park, or simply taking a stroll around your neighborhood with your pup or your kids, you're giving your body a chance to soak up some much-needed vitamin D from the sun.
Plus, the varied terrain and fresh air can challenge your muscles in new and exciting ways, helping you build strength and agility like never before.
Spending time in nature is also incredibly beneficial for your mental and emotional well-being. In today's fast-paced world, we're constantly bombarded with screens, notifications, and stressors. Stepping outside allows you to unplug, unwind, and reconnect with the world around you.
Studies have shown that spending time in nature can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, while boosting your mood and improving your overall sense of well-being. It’s also incredible for helping your nervous system to regulate and calm down.
And let's not forget about the spiritual benefits of being in nature. Whether you're marveling at the grandeur of a towering redwood tree or gazing up at the stars on a clear night, there's something undeniably awe-inspiring about the natural world. It reminds us of our place in the universe and helps us tap into a deeper sense of gratitude, wonder, and humility.
So, my friends, I urge you to lace up those sneakers, step outside, and embrace the beauty of nature. Even if you can only go for a 10 minute walk, get out there and soak up the benefits of being outside.
Your body, mind, and spirit will thank you for it. And who knows? You just might discover a whole new world of fitness and adventure waiting for you out there.
